Sarah Ann Loreth

“Sarah Ann Loreth does not take photographs; she creates them from scenes she pulls from deep within herself. Sarah is a fine art photographer from New Hampshire, who specializes in self-portraiture and conceptual portraiture. In her work she tries to convey a quiet stillness of emotion with a connection to her natural surroundings. From her use of color and surreality she creates a reality found only in her imagination but with an emotion that is undeniably human. She explores the divide between darkness and light, unafraid to explore themes that others may find uncomfortable. Her work evokes a connection from the viewer, a feeling of oneness of the human experience and a mystery that will leave you wondering how the story will unfold.”  …step inside

Have you ever said your name over and over again until it no longer felt like yours? It becomes this foreign word that you no longer associate with yourself. That’s a bit of what it’s like to live with BPD. It’s like living in a house that’s falling down around you but there isn’t much you can do about it because nothing feels real. You lack identity. You lack a sense of self. You are constantly watching your body go through the motions from above yourself. I wanted to create a personal series based upon what it’s like to live with Borderline Personality Disorder. 1.6% of adults in the United States have Borderline Personality Disorder and it is something that I’ve struggled with heavily for most of my life.
