Philip Oliver Hale(born in 1963), a highly respected American figurative painter, has been called a modern illustration powerhouse. His surrealistic figurative paintings are loved by comic fans and art collectors alike. Born in 1963 into a family of artists, he became an apprentice to fellow American artist Richard Berry when he was only sixteen. By age eighteen, his superb brush work had garnered so much attention that his art was in great demand. Much of Hale’s early professional work was as an illustrator for such renowned clients as Stephen King, RayGun, Playboy, and Spectrum. Hale presently lives in London where he devotes his time to fine art. In 2008, Hale was commissioned to paint the portrait of Tony Blair, the former Prime Minister of the UK. Among King fans, Hale is loved for the dynamic cover art and interior illustrations that he created for The Drawing of the Three, and for his artwork in the Zeising slip-cased gift edition of Insomnia.
