Geneva, 7 November 2013, Art Media Agency.
After a very successful exhibition at Geneva’s Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, and the day before his 73rd birthday, Swiss artist Jean Otth has passed away.
Originally from Lausanne, Otth was one of the pioneers of video art, which he began to focus on in 1971, after a brief spell in the field of painting. The artist explained his approach: “My idea is to add to the movement that a painting creates in its immobility, a movement in itself. It is a time-movement which I also consider to be a colour, that can be added to the painter’s palette.”
His works have been the object of numerous exhibitions, particularly at the musée cantonal des Beaux-Arts in Lausanne, but also internationally; the artist participated in dOCUMENTA 6 in Kassel (1977) and in the Venice and São Paulo Biennales. At the latter, he received the Art and Communication Prize in 1973.
