Misho Baranovic /best photographers

Misho Baranovic  has worked as a photographer for many years and is prominent in the emerging practice of mobile photography. He is interested in how mobile photography can be used for community building, in particular, helping people understand and express their relationship with the urban environment. Misho is also a qualified social planner and community engagement practitioner and has worked on a range of projects across the private and public sectors.

For many years, Misho worked as a commercial photographer, shooting for several retail clients including Macquarie Country Wide, IGA, and Coolabah Tree Cafe. He also documented several major arts events, including Woodford Folk Festival and Red Bull Music Academy, as well as independent productions at Brisbane Powerhouse, Judith Wright Centre of Contemporary Arts, and Metro Arts in Brisbane, Queensland.

As one of the world’s leading mobile photographers, Misho’s street photography has been exhibited internationally in Oakland, California (Pixels at an Exhibition, 2010), New York (EyeEm, Open House Gallery, 2010), Berlin (EyeEm,Schlechtriem Brothes Gallery, 2010), and Paola, Italy (iPhoneography.eu, FIAF Gallery Arteaparte, 2011).

In 2011, Misho exhibited photographs at the Sydney Apple Store alongside six other Australian mobile photographers. In the same year, he held his first solo exhibition, New Melbourne, at the Matt Irwin Gallery, Melbourne.

In 2012, Misho curated (with Oliver Lang) the Instaburb book project, documenting Australian suburbia through Instagram.

Misho has been featured on ABC Television’s Art Nation and Photo Finish (premiering June 14) and in media publicationsThe AustralianThe Age, Virgin Australia’s Voyeur Magazinethe debut issue of And Now It’s In Print,Radiate Magazine, and Stated Magazine

He is a founding member of Mobile Photo Group, an international collective of mobile photographers dedicated to promoting their work and presenting mobile photography as an important and evolving art form.

Misho is available for teaching and speaking engagements and, in 2012, has taught workshops on mobile street photography for the Monash Gallery of ArtNMIT, and EyeEm in Berlin. ( .mishobaranovic.com )
