Through the mediums of performance and photography, ‘Performative Body’ explores the intrinsic and complex relationship between violence, beauty, and vulnerability, re-examining how these antipodal constructs impact ideas of the ‘self’ and the body.

My photographic interventions which occur before, during or after Echo Morgan’s Live – or Performance – Art, challenge societal constructs beauty and personal vulnerability. The photographs are physical remnants from Echo’s performance pieces ‘Little Red Flower’, ‘Spider’, ‘Be Inside the Vase’ and ‘Balls of Steel’ from 2012, where she re-contextualised her body and mind into the large socio-political issues of memory, gender and race from her childhood upbringing in Communist China.
